Table tennis is more than just a fast-paced indoor sport—it’s a test of skill, strategy, and resilience. For players at OPAIC, table tennis is more than a game; it’s a lifelong passion that shapes their character and builds a strong sense of community. We spoke with the first Challenger's Cup winners— Digvijit, Subhan, and Shahryar—who shared their love for the sport and their playing at the college level.

For Digvijit, table tennis has been a part of his journey since high school, creating lasting memories with friends and colleagues. He values the sport not just for its fitness benefits but also for its ability to bring people together. His advice to newcomers? “Winning is not the goal; becoming better is.” This mindset highlights the importance of continuous growth and enjoying the process.

Subhan, who was initially drawn to table tennis for its speed and intensity, has seen his passion evolve as he honed his skills. “It’s like a high-speed chess match,” he says, emphasising the blend of reflexes, strategy, and mental agility required to succeed. His approach to high-pressure moments is all about composure and focus, reminding players that every match is an opportunity to learn and improve.

Shahryar, a seasoned athlete who has played at the national level, appreciates table tennis for its combination of speed, agility, and intelligence. He believes the sport instils patience, confidence, and adaptability—qualities that extend beyond the game into everyday life.

Reflecting on the recent Challenger’s Cup, all three players praised the event for fostering competitive spirit and camaraderie. It wasn’t just about winning; it was about sportsmanship, learning, and pushing one’s limits. As table tennis continues to grow at OPAIC, these passionate players hope to inspire more students to pick up a paddle and experience the thrill of the game in Challenger's Cup 2.0.
